Adam has returned home to find his old friend Danny Faith, after five years of staying away from everyone including his girlfriend Robin who is a cop. Five years ago, Adam was tried for murder and acquitted, but the townspeople still see him as the murderer. Adam is bitter because his family especially his father did not believe in his innocence. Instead of going home, Adam goes to Danny Faith’s father’s hotel to rent a room, where he is beaten up badly. As he leaves the hospital, Robin meets him and takes him to her apartment. Later on, Adam goes to meet his father, stepmother, his two step-siblings, the caretaker and his granddaughter Grace. Then, as much as he searches, Adam cannot find Danny. There is, yet, another twist to the story as the possibility of a nuclear plant. The developers want to buy the Red Water Farm and other farmland around it, despite Adam’s father’s resolve to not sell the farm. In the meantime, other murders spring up around Adam, making the authorities suspect him again. With all the pressure around him, Adam wants to prove his innocence and to see if he can return to the only place he calls home. The story continues with everyone being suspected of thing or another until the end when the puzzle is solved and Adam is cleared once and for all.

Down River is Southern Gothic at its best with the strong theme of the prodigal son, powerful yet somewhat eccentric characters–each with their own secrets and vices–and a splendid backdrop of countryside. The story, told in first person, weaves skillfully along several plotlines, keeping the reader guessing the answer to the who-done-it question. The language of the book is rich, evocative, at times sentimental and poetic, and at times direct and harsh, reflecting the psychological complexity of its characters. The writer’s exemplary use of the language and understanding of the regional elements and his characters raise the quality of this mystery to a high literary level. Adam Chase narrates: I wondered if it (the town) had the taste of me even now, so many years after it had spit me out. I drove past the renovated train station and the old mansions stuffed with money, turned my face away from men on familiar benches and women in bright clothes.

I picked Down River from a bookstand in an airport and found it to be my best pick in a long time. The mastery of the author in all aspects of storytelling makes this book a captivating thriller as well as an excellent example of literary fiction.

Bunk Beds on Planes

Finally, a German airline, Lufthansa, has introduced the concept of triple bunk beds available for economy class! This is exactly what everyone has been waiting for! What’s not to be excited? Instead of having to sit in a small seat for 10 hours or so, you can leisurely lay on your own bed instead. Lufthansa has release official computer generated pictures which show rows of beds stacked on top of each other along the sides of the plane. The beds are positioned diagonally along the sides with two additional rows of beds in the middle of the plane. I must say, it looks much more appealing than economy class seats!

So why has airlines hesitated in the past to building beds in planes? Well, to be fair, airlines made the seats small for a reason. In order to fit in hundreds of passengers in an efficient way, the seats were built to fit maximum capacity. With this new development of utilizing triple bunk beds, airlines can still fit in a large number of passengers who will happily return for that comfortable experience.

But wait, how comfortable and safe could a bed be on a plane that potentially shakes and moves erratically from time to time? While all this may sound very appealing to the average passenger, it is still hard to fathom the concept of laying down on a bunk bed where a violent shake from the plane can have me falling or flying across the room. Of course, seat belts would do its job in keeping me from moving around everywhere but would I really sleep comfortably being strapped to a bed elevated several feet in the air? This new concept is definitely interesting and I would have to experience it in person to really reap the full advantages, but until then, I have my doubts.

Today I wanted to focus on how amazing YOUR body is, regardless of its shape and size. Your body is doing amazing things every second and understanding how amazing your body is could help you appreciate the gift of your body more.

Your Brain

Your brain is the master control center for everything that is going on in your body. Think about this. You breathe, but you don’t have to think about it. Your heart beats, but you don’t have to think about it. Your body processes the foods that you eat, takes out what it needs and passes along the rest, but you don’t have to think about it. All of that is going on in your body and the brain is making it all happen.

Not to mention (even though I am going to mention it right here) the fact that your brain is taking in all of the information that your senses are taking in, processing it, and comparing it to all of your past experiences to give it meaning. You don’t have to think about any of that! Your brain just works.

Scientists have not been able to manufacture anything that comes close to what the brain can do.
Your brain can process hundreds of millions of bits of information every second. Computers can only do a fraction of the processing that the human brain can. It would take rooms full of the most powerful computers to have the equivalent processing power of the brain. Your brain is truly amazing.

Your Eyes

When you see something, what are your eyes doing? They are receiving waves of light, turning them into impulses that your brain can use to make pictures. You may ask yourself, “Are you serious?” I am. Have you ever stopped to think how amazing that is? Everything around you that is colorful and beautiful, is reflecting light waves into your eyes and your eyes and brain work together to convert it into an image that you perceive in your mind. It is mind boggling.

Other Parts Of Your Body

Your ears do the same thing as your eyes, except that they are made to pick up sound waves. Your ears funnel these waves to your brain and you hear sound. The voices of those we care about and the music that we love to listen to come through to us as sound waves and are converted, by our amazing brain, into what we perceive as sound.

There are countless things that make your body simply amazing. The next time that you are tempted to compare how the outside of your body looks with some fake, airbrushed image in a magazine, think of how amazing your body is. Paris Hilton – Is She All Fake?

One can never be so fake nor can she always be true. Persons have to wear masks at any given moment and you may find her lying or saying the truth. Okay, let’s start with how much she’s worth. By the dollars, she’s probably worth somewhere between $20 million up to $30, but don’t ask me where I have taken that figure because we can’t exactly know for sure. That was just a rough estimate. Nonetheless, even with $10 million, it would be easy for someone to buy his or her forgiveness or at least buy her own way in to publicity. She has everything at her disposal, this is why it is easy for her to get all the attention she needs, which apparently is one of the main things she would die for in this world.

She is the daughter of Conrad Hilton, who’s father is the real hotel magnate who for some reason or another, did not bother to leave his last will and testament to his children. The money that she inherits from his parents makes her an indispensable heiress to their properties.

Maybe we cannot blame her for what she made herself to be despite all her wealth she had since birth. Because spoilage leads nowhere but to the spoilage of character, if there is anything left to spoil and the corruption of thinking including morality and basic perspectives on things. But, she may be blamed for the great parts she had played, along with her publicists, on what the Americans and the world see in her.

But not all heiresses to great fortune are like her of course. There are those who make great exceptions, like the royalties of the England themselves. They remained to be classy and honorable despite of the fact that many tragically crippling incidents have already passed through their lives. While some parts of their private lives have been exposed to the public, with the help of the paparazzi of course, they still have the respect from the public itself. But Paris Hilton has none and she is not really worth comparing to these schooled royalties who do not spoil their little ones.

Further, let us take the best example of Ivanka Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump and Ivana Trump. She is a Czech-American businesswoman and fashion model who have received good trainings from her parent especially during her college years.

She was a Bachelor of Science in Economics cum laude in Georgetown University who earned this through financing her needs in college. Her mother paid for her tuition though while she earned for her other expenses. Nonetheless, this sort of training and the lack of spoon-feeding formed her into a classy, intelligent lady who is worth the limelight and praise.

Again, it is not that Paris Hilton is worth comparing with this beautiful lady but it is just to give you the perspective that if Paris Hilton, with the aid of those people regularly surrounding her, helped herself to become a respectable woman then she could have turned the spotlight to herself with the exception of focusing on the wrong pages of her life. But again, she did not exert the effort to do that and she never bothered to make herself into a decent lady. Instead, she contented herself on being a table-dancing, porn star, doubtful reality show host alongside with her being the heiress of the Hilton Hotels.

We can all say that she is fake and many would bring the war on us that she is as real as the person sitting next to you. She is flawed and to justify this, she almost always never fails to bring herself into the public eye with all her misconducts. But to her credit, she claims that she is not bright and gives no contest on that.

Like all human, she has her shares of imperfections and we just have to take her for that.

Eye Contact – Are You Making These Mistakes?

Or, do you make the opposite eye contact mistake – do you completely avoid looking at the people you are speaking to? Do you look down at the ground, or do you look over their shoulder at something else going on behind them?

Either of these two approaches to the tricky topic of eye contact can cause a bad impression on others, and may even keep you from having good relationships.

If you don’t make eye contact with others, or if you gaze at people too intensely, you will probably be making your conversation partners feel uneasy.

Some of us automatically know how to use eye contact effectively. We sense when people want us to look at them, and we sense when it is time to look away.

For those of us who are not very good at reading other people, knowing when and how to make eye contact, and when to look away can be very confusing.

People who are very shy often have a lot of trouble making eye contact. Many shy people feel extremely uncomfortable about looking at someone’s eyes. Because they won’t look at the other person’s eyes, they end up making a bad impression. Shy people who won’t make eye contact can end up looking as if they are dishonest or hiding something. There is no way you can look confident if you are avoiding eye contact.

If you don’t like looking into anyone’s eyes, should you change this behavior? How can you start looking into someone’s eyes if you feel uncomfortable doing so?

If looking into somebody’s eyes is difficult for you, one way you can improve your eye contact is to consciously decide you will do it a lit bit more often, and for a little bit longer every time you are talking with somebody. That way you can gradually become more used to looking at people when you are speaking.

You may prefer to practice with people you already know.

You may find that if you let your eyes go out of focus a bit, it will be easier to look at the other person’s face. Just look in the general area of the nose, mouth, or eyebrows while they are speaking.

While you are in conversation, don’t keep your own face rigid. Let your face relax. Let various emotions show themselves on your face, as the conversation moves along. . Allow yourself to give a little smile on occasion.

What if you have been making the opposite mistake? What if you have been gazing at people too intensely without looking away? Unless you are working as a police investigator trying to intimidate suspects into a confession, this kind of intense gaze is not a good approach to making conversation, or making new friends.

Instead of looking intensely into other people’s eyes, once again, let your gaze soften. Break away from looking at your conversation partner all the time. Relax the muscles of your face. Allow yourself to show some emotions that match the topic of conversation.

With a bit of practice, and with a bit of feedback from the people you are talking with, you can learn to adjust your eye contact so that it won’t be too much, it won’t be too little, it will be just right!
