Again this also explains why we all love butterflies though we hate other insects. Even when we hear that one of our friends is seeing somebody, the first question that we ask is “Is she beautiful?”

But the problem rises when we adore a kid with nice looks to an ordinary looking one.

It is often noticed that good looking kids often receives more attention than those with a comparatively inferior looks. How far is that justified? What is worse is that some parents adore their daughters possessing good looks more than the one who is not in possession of it. This problem is mostly felt in case of girls than in case of boys. In our society, girls possessing good looks are respected. That is the reason why Miss Universe and Miss World contests are popular worldwide. Question may arise, that such competitions may give birth to inferiority complexes in tender minds of some teenagers who are not in possession of good looks. It is mostly visible among teenagers because they are overtly conscious about their looks. It gives rise to mental depression and inferiority complexes.

We can not deny that even in this age, some people have a fetish for fair complexions. In many countries people with black complexions are still underprivileged. How fair is that?

Incidentally, quite a few people have the attitude to ignore such negative remarks about their appearance. It is often seen; negative remarks about external appearance shatters down one’s self esteem and can also generate serious psychological problems. A person who has attained a reasonable age and maturity may have the ability to combat such discriminations but this may not hold true in case of kids. The above situation holds true for kids suffering from obesity. They have to listen to lewd remarks from their friends and sometimes even from teachers in school. The other kids often make fun of them and this repulses them from playing with their pals. The parents are often helpless about such incidents. Proper mental growth and development of these kids are hampered and they grow up to be individuals with selfish attitude towards life.

If we ever try to find out the backgrounds of people who are quite self centered, we would find that most of them had lead an isolated life in childhood.

If we have to find a reasonable solution to this, I guess we should change the way we tend to look at things. A person not possessing nice looks should be treated with similar respect and dignity. Most importantly, the parents should try to make their children understand that the inner quality of a human being is most important aspect in ones life. If such a mind set can be developed from the very childhood of a person, he would turn out to be a sensible human being in the later years of his life.
